Gardening and Composting
Organic vegetables farming is one of the growing trends in Sri Lanka & in the world. Identifying this importance AWWA has encouraged to women to carry on organic gardening that would re-inforce a healthy life style. We started with simple vegetables such as green chili, tomato, lattices, gotukola, spinach, curry leaves, brinjal and some fruits such as wild oranges, mango, banana and coconut. Herbs such as mint corriedor, ginger, garlic and cucumber are also popular in AWWA’s home gardening process. Further, barrels were distributed to facilitate composting process.
Shramadana
‘A clean surrounding’ is one of the themes of AWWA which is highly promoted via “Shramadana programs”. AWWA’s annual project plans compulsorily contains shramadana programs. The places where shramadana programs to be done will be decided by the committee considering the contemporary situations of various places. Panagamuwa Ahadiyah school was selected and “ shramadana program was successfully carried out by AWWA members.
