SCHOLARSHIP
AWWA has given importance to “ Education” since it facilitates the development of the community and ultimately the nation. All the objectives of AWWA directly or indirectly promotes “ Education”. In that way, ‘scholarships’ are awarded for underprivileged students to succeed in their education.
Notably, students who sit for their Advanced Levels are being selected according to a criteria set by the senior members of AWWA. For instance, if the student has single parent as the guardians such students are given priority. And also, if the student’s educational progress report is also taken into consideration in the selection process. The selection process is regardless of their religion or ethnicity, which shows the unity among our community.
The Educational committee will interview the applicant and the decision of the committee is conclusive. And, till such selected students accomplish with the A/Ls examination the scholarship will be given to assist them with their studies. Moreover, the committee is currently planning to monitor the progress of the students who awarded with such scholarship. Few students who received AWWA scholarship are now in universities pursuing their higher education.
Not only the education of A/L students are focused by AWWA, But also other children who are in need of the assistance for their studies are also considered. AWWA provided educational equipment to underprivileged students on 31.03.2014 at auditorium of the Azhar national school, Akurana.

IT Training
The world of education is changing as the modern world continues to grow. The skills on Information Technology are turned up as one of the essential part of our life. AWWA has recognized the importance of IT education. In that way, encouraging women to improve the IT skills is recognized as one of the objective of the committee on education.
IT and computer classes are regularly held at the vocational training center of AWWA. Initially the computer training classes were conducted on 03.08.2008 where 15 participants benefited. Not only the participants but also the many others indirectly benefited by this kind of training. For instance participants who have children are able to help them in the educational activities. Further, IT training opens the gateway for the participants to engage in online businesses. For, instance the entrepreneurship activities such as hand works can be sold online. So through IT education AWWA promotes entrepreneurship of women.
The ‘Vidatha resource center of Akurana’ has a huge contribution in this project. There are many courses conducted for AWWA members. The ‘Certificate course in basic computer skills’ which is organized by the Ministry of science & Technology, Sri Lanka, is commonly held for all AWWA members.
