About Awwa

Akurana Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA) is a womens’ organization that caters primarily to the welfare of its members who are women from Akurana region. AWWA has a membership of 150 of whom some are active. It was founded in 1981.

Its activities include

• Educational and Training,
• Small Scale industries
• Environment and Home Gardening
• Community Health,
• Cultural and Religious,
• Welfare and Referral Services,
• Information Sessions,
• Social Activities.

AWWA is registered with the Local Government and Womens’ Ministry and at the address 76/2 Matale Road, Akurana. AWWA has an office in the 2nd floor of the Akurana Divisional Secretariat Office and a Vocational Training Institute on Telembugwatte Road, Akurana.

AWWA is run by a committee whose current President, Secretary and Treasurer are Mufeedha Aroos, Subaida Ismail, and Yasmin Haniffa. The Life Chair is Marliya Zubair.
